Between Friends sends a total of more than 800 boxes of clothes and books to Ontario First Nations twice a year. As well, we send toys, household items, and food as available and have also arranged emergency shipments. We receive donations all year long but hold two targeted annual drives (Fall & Spring).
- We regularly service 14 communities and organizations: Beausoleil, Henvey Inlet, Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug, Mnjikaning, Mishkeegogamang, Mississaugas of Alderville, Muskrat Dam, Pikangikum, Sandy Lake, & Shawanaga First Nations, & the Georgian Bay Native Friendship Centre & Perry Sound Native Friendship Centre.
- The Anishinabek Police Services and Still River /West Perry Sound OPP come regularly to pick up donations, which are then delivered to their district communities.
- We have worked with Kashechewan, Lac Seul, & Whitsands First Nations.
- Four First Nations are remote, accessible only by air or by a seasonal winter road.
- During drive weeks, donations are loaded onto a transport truck bound for several northern hubs. First Nations with road access pick up their own boxes. Remote communities have their articles delivered by single engine prop planes.
